Meet Dr. George R. Zambelli, Jr.
Dr. George Zambelli is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He completed his medical internship at Saint Louis University Hospitals and his ophthalmology residency at Ohio State University Hospitals. During Dr. Zambelli’s residency, he received training in phacoemulsification, at a time when only 1 percent of cataract surgeons were performing this technique. He has remained on the cutting edge of eye care and ophthalmic technology for 40 years. He was the first surgeon in Beaver County to perform laser-assisted cataract surgery, and the first in Western PA to offer selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) for the treatment of glaucoma and laser vitreolysis for the treatment of eye floaters. He is trained and certified on the use of the VISX and Nidek excimer lasers, as well as the state-of the-art Wavelight FS200 and EX500 lasers for bladeless femtosecond LASIK. Dr. George Zambelli specializes in cataract and anterior segment surgery, glaucoma and laser vision correction, and has performed more than 70,000 procedures. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Zambelli has traveled around the world (as far as Beijing, China) to train other cataract surgeons in advanced techniques. While teaching cataract surgeons in Honduras the latest techniques, Dr. Zambelli and his daughter provided cataract surgery and other eye care services to patients in underserved communities.
Dr. Zambelli currently travels throughout the tristate area to meet with community groups and share information about eye care and eye diseases. He provides eye screenings to families throughout Beaver County. He works closely with optometric colleagues in the area to provide the best in complete eye care.
He belongs to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Society, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery as well as the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Meet Dr. Alison M. Zambelli
Dr. Alison M. Zambelli is a graduate of Boston College and Temple University School of Medicine. She completed her medical internship at the Crozer Chester Medical Center and her ophthalmology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Zambelli also completed fellowship training in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery at Tufts Medical Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston in Boston, MA. She specializes in cataract and anterior segment surgery, medical diseases of the cornea and ocular surface as well as surgical and laser refractive procedures including LASIK, PRK and presbyopia correcting treatments. In addition to working with her father at Zambelli Cataract and Laser Eye Institute, she has a cornea specialty practice in Wexford, PA, and performs laser vision correction, including bladeless LASIK, at TLC Pittsburgh. She is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Zambelli has been involved with ophthalmology research since she was a medical student, when she worked under world-renowned surgeons at Wills Eye Hospital. She has completed investigations and has been published in the field of cornea. She has presented at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. She was a sub-investigator in the studies that led to the FDA approval of corneal cross-linking in the United States. She was the first ophthalmologist in Western PA to provide FDA-approved corneal cross-linking. She lectures colleagues on the latest advances in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Zambelli traveled to Honduras, along with her father, to perform cataract surgery and provide general eye care services to underserved populations.
Dr. Zambelli works closely with optometrists in the area with a focus on complete eye care. She currently travels throughout the tristate area to spread awareness about common eye conditions and she meets with local groups to discuss eye health. Dr. Zambelli offers eye screenings to families throughout Beaver County.
She belongs to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Cornea Society, the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists, the Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Society, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons as well as the International Society of Refractive Surgery.
